Congratulations on the arrival of your baby! It’s been an exciting nine or so months, and there are great days ahead. Now that your child has joined the outer world, it’s time to begin securing their current and future health. This goal is achieved through a series of well-baby exams that monitor their growth. Your pediatrician will have their vaccines up to date, their growth progress checked, and overall health examined at each visit.
Discovering Your Newborn Wellness Journey With Rose Creek Pediatrics
Our team in Riverton, UT, is excited to be with you throughout your child’s development. Your first well-baby exam should happen within 3-5 days after birth and continue on a frequent schedule. These visits will begin every week, before transitioning to monthly, and then every few months. Our team may suggest that the visits happen more often if there are any concerns.
A brief overview of what lay ahead includes:
- 1 Week – Checks for jaundice, weight, and feeding issues. Often involves metabolic screenings, newborn & parent vaccines.
- 2 Weeks – Weight check, newborn & parent vaccines, physical exam.
- 1,2,4,6 Months – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines.
- 9 Months – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines, hemoglobin check.
- 12 Months – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines, TB skin test.
- 15, 18 Months – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines.
- 2 Years – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines, lead screening
- 2.5 Years – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines.
- 3 Years – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines, TB skin test.
- 4 Years + – Weight check, physical exam, newborn & parent vaccines.
At each visit, your pediatrician will take your baby’s measurements. These measurements make tracking their individual growth and development possible. While there are some typical guidelines as to how a newborn should develop, every child is different. Their growth will be gauged using a growth chart that represents the average development of children in their age range.
As they grow they’ll be monitored for any developing concerns. This will ensure that any health issues can be caught early. Unusual weight gain or slow development., issues with sight or hearing, can be caught and addressed early. All along the way, you’ll have the comfort and security of our team there to help them grow successfully. These concerns, and many more, will be checked during your visit with a pediatrician at Rose Creek Pediatrics.
